Coffee is like a Muse
Who said that only a fascinating woman can be inspiring for poets, musicians artists and playwrights?
It was really coffee which was able to inspire the greats of the past like the composer Johann Sebastian Bach who loved coffe to the point of dedicating the Kaffeekantate to it, performed in Leipzig between 1732 and 1735.
The song with the libretto Picander, tells the story of a young girl who drank too much coffee, causing the anger of his father who was continuously reproaching her for this vice: he admonished her with the words “if you won’t stop, I will not allow you to marry!”
The girl obeyed and got married, including in the prenuptial agreement a special clause: once married, she could have had all the coffee she wanted.
A cup of coffee is often painted in many famous works by well known artists: just think of “The end of breakfast” by Auguste Renoir or “The couple sitting at the Cafè” by Edouard Manet.
Chubby coffeepots can be found in the paintings by Botero and coffee itself inspired some of the works made by Vincent Van Gogh and Edvard Munch. It is a widely shared passion among some of the most brilliant minds in the occidental history. .
